Graham Akhurst
Graham Akhurst is an Aboriginal writer and academic hailing from the Kokomini of Northern Queensland. He is an Indigenous Australian Studies and Creative Writing Lecturer at UTS. Graham was awarded a W.G. Walker Fulbright Scholarship to support the completion of an MFA at Hunter College in New York. He also has an Honours degree in creative writing and a MPhil in creative writing from the University of Queensland.
Graham’s debut YA novel, Borderland, received multiple awards, including the 2024 Children's Book Council of Australia Notable Book of the Year for Older Readers, the Aurealis Awards Finalist 2024 for Best Horror Novel and Best Young Adult Novel, and was shortlisted for the Queensland Premier's Awards and Queensland Literary Awards.
Graham is also a Director on the Board of the Eleanor Dark Foundation.
