Vijay Khurana


Vijay Khurana’s debut novel, The Passenger Seat, was shortlisted for the Novel Prize and was published by Ultimo Press in 2025. His short stories and essays have appeared in The Guardian, The Griffith Review, The Erotic Review, Big Issue and The Believer, among others.  

Vijay was co-winner of the 2021 Griffith Review Emerging Voices Competition and has been shortlisted for prizes including the Galley Beggar Short Story Prize and the Bath Short Story Award. As a translator from German, he has published works by the early 20th Century expressionist Georg Heym and contemporary novelist Senthuran Varatharajah. His translation of Varatharajah’s novel Red (Hunger) will be published in 2026 by Tilted Axis Press.  

Vijay has also been a presenter on triple j and has published a children's chapter book, Regal Beagle. He lives in Berlin with his wife, the writer Madeleine Watts.
