Bob Brown
Bob Brown is an acclaimed author, philosopher and green activist who rose to prominence leading the campaign to save the Franklin River in the 1980s.
After 10 years in the Tasmanian Parliament, Bob was elected to the Senate in 1996 where he served for 16 years. He was leader of the Australian Greens from 2005 to 2012, when he retired from the parliament to establish the Bob Brown Foundation. Bob lives in Tasmania with his partner Paul and enjoys photography, bushwalking, poetry, and philosophy.
His earlier books include Wild Rivers, Lake Pedder, Tarkine Trails, The Greens, Memo for a Saner World, Earth, In Balfour St., Optimism, Green Nomads (1 and 2), Four Days on Islay and Thera. Bob's latest book, Defiance was released in October 2025.
