Ali McGregor


Ali McGregor is a soprano and genre-defying performer whose career spans opera, cabaret and contemporary music theatre. Trained at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK, she began her operatic career with Opera Australia, where she performed over 26 roles. She has appeared with other major companies, including Victorian Opera, Opera Queensland, and New Zealand Opera. In recent years, Ali has focused on new Australian work, co-creating the acclaimed Lorelei for Victorian and The Call for Opera Queensland.

Ali is also a celebrated cabaret artist, performing everywhere from Glastonbury Festival to Carnegie Hall. From 2016 to 2018 she served as Artistic Director of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Her work has earned her a Helpmann Award, Green Room Awards and an ARIA nomination. After recently completing a fellowship for the Australian Performing Arts Collection, she is writing a podcast on early Australian theatre star Nellie Stewart. She is also a passionate advocate for the evolution of opera and is currently developing the FLUXUS Opera Lab through an Australia Council Fellowship.
