SPINNING AROUND: THE KYLIE PLAYLIST | Christos Tsiolkas, Jessica White, Patrick Marlborough and Ali McGregor

  • The Carrington Hotel 15-47 Katoomba Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Australian icon Kylie Minogue is the musical muse for a sparkling new anthology from Fremantle Press. Join three of its twenty-four contributors – Christos Tsiolkas, Jessica White and Patrick Marlborough – as they share readings of original works inspired by songs from Kylie’s back catalogue, from her 1987 release I Should Be So Lucky through to her latest album.

Spanning crime fiction, memoir, speculative fiction, poetry and science fiction, the collection is so much more than a tribute. With musical interpretations of classic Kylie songs by your host, genre-defying singer Ali McGregor, this joyful fusion of music and literature is not to be missed!

Christos Tsiolkas is the author of eight novels, Loaded, The Jesus Man, Dead Europe, The Slap, Barracuda, Damascus, 7 1/2, and The In-Between, as well as the short story collection, Merciless Gods. Christos is also a playwright, scriptwriter and film reviewer. He is a patron of Writers Victoria and a past winner of the Melbourne Prize for Literature.

Dr Jessica White is the author of the novels A Curious Intimacy and Entitlement, and a hybrid memoir about deafness, Hearing Maud, which won the 2020 Michael Crouch Award for a debut work of biography and was shortlisted for four national awards, including the Prime Ministers Literary Award for Non-fiction. Jessica is the co-founder and Chief Advisory Board Member of Science Write Now, a journal of creative writing and art inspired by science. Her latest book is Silence is My Habitat.

Patrick Marlborough is an underemployed writer/comedian/musician/drongo living with their parents in Walyalup, Western Australia. They have been published widely, and they are the founder and editor of The Yeah Nah Review, as well as Wharf Rat Press. Their screwball comedy revenge thriller Nock Loose was published in 2025.

Ali McGregor is a genre-defying performer whose career spans opera, cabaret and contemporary music theatre. She has performed with Opera Australia, Victorian Opera, Opera Queensland, and New Zealand Opera, among others. Ali is also a celebrated cabaret artist, performing everywhere from Glastonbury Festival to Carnegie Hall. She is currently developing the FLUXUS Opera Lab through an Australia Council Fellowship.
