Every journey changes the person who takes it — but for women, the experience of moving through a patriarchal world complicates the pleasure and adventure of travel. Join critic and journalist Nicole Abadee for a conversation about travel and writing from a woman's perspective, with three prolific authors from different parts of the world. Kathryn Heyman (Aus), Hazel Phillips (NZ) and San San (China) will gather at The Women’s Club to explore what it means to observe as an outsider, to write your way through fear and freedom, and to turn the unfamiliar into a story worth telling.

Dr. Kathryn Heyman is the author of seven novels as well as a memoir, a poetry collection and several dramas for stage and BBC radio. Kathryn Heyman won the Copyright Agency's Author Fellowship for her memoir Fury, which is now in development as a feature film. Her latest novel is Circle of Wonders.
Hazel Phillips is a New Zealand writer, journalist and the author of five books, including: Great Hearts: First Ladies of Aoraki Mount Cook; Fire & Ice: Secrets, histories, treasures and mysteries of Tongariro National Park; Solo: Backcountry adventuring in Aotearoa New Zealand.
San Sanis a professional writer with the Shanghai Writers' Association. Her stories appear in Harvest, People's Literature, Flower City, October, and other major journals, whilst she personally has published five short story collections, including The Long River, Late Spring, and Russian Dolls.
Nicole Abadeeis a freelance journalist and event moderator who writes for the Sydney Morning Herald and Harper’s Bazaar. She is a regular moderator at writers’ festivals including Sydney Writers’ Festival, Adelaide Writers’ Week, Canberra Writers’ Festival and the Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival. Nicole was also a moderator at Edinburgh International Writers’ Festival last year and earlier this year in August
