This intimate event is set at The Old Stables in the Megalong Valley, a rural paradise just half an hour from Katoomba.
Aboriginal farmer and award-winning writer Bruce Pascoe is joined by Bundjalung writer, editor and mentor Grace Lucas-Pennington for a far-reaching discussion focused on Dark Emu, Big Sky and his broader body of work. Reconsidering the colonial myths that have attempted to justify dispossession, Pascoe’s writing offers deep insight into our history, and how science and philosophy, when tempered by holistic knowledge, offer possible pathways to a better future.
Bruce Pascoe is an Aboriginal farmer and writer of literary fiction, non-fiction, poetry, essays and children's literature, based on Yuin Country. His publications have won numerous awards including the NSW Premier's Award for Literature, the Booksellers Association Prize and the CBCA Eve Pownall award. He is the author of the groundbreaking, bestselling book Dark Emu. His follow-up to Dark Emu is The European Mind: Colonialism, Capitalism, Christianity and How to Recover.
Grace Lucas-Pennington is an Aboriginal (Bundajalung) editor specialising in First Nations fiction and poetry. She grew up mostly between northern NSW and the greater Logan/Brisbane area. Grace is the Senior Editor at State Library of Queensland's black&write! Indigenous Writing and Editing Project, and is on the Board of Byron Writers Festival. Grace was awarded the 2020 Nakata Brophy Prize for poetry.
