Explore fresh techniques for sparking new ideas with Miles Franklin shortlisted author Julie Janson.

With an extensive career spanning poetry, crime fiction, historical fiction, playwriting and visual art, Julie has developed a vast toolkit to help writers develop original concepts for new work. Using group exercises, writing tasks and visual prompts, she will offer participants a variety of approaches for finding inspiration, generating new perspectives, exploring genre and form, and avoiding tired tropes.

This workshop is perfect for writers seeking ideas for a new project, for writers who are feeling blocked, or for anybody looking to reinvigorate their writing practice with unexpected possibilities.

Julie Janson is a Burruberongal woman of Darug nation, born in Sydney, now living on Brinja Yuin Country. Her novels include the Compassion (Miles Franklin Award shortlist), Madukka the River Serpent (Miles Franklin longlist), and Benevolence (shortlisted for the ASA Barbara Jefferis Novel Award 2022 and nominated for the NIB and Voss Literary Awards). Julie was also winner of the Oodgeroo Noonuccal Poetry Prize (2016) and Judith Wright Poetry Prize (2019).
