Nurture your creativity in a relaxed, dynamic environment with Dominic Hoey, the author of three best-selling novels, countless poems and two celebrated plays.
With ten years’ experience running his Learn to Write Good creative writing classes, Dominic has taught thousands of students around Aotearoa and overseas. Whether you want to sharpen your dialogue, explore poetic prose, or inject a little humour into your work, Dominic has the tools and approach to help.
With accessibility at the forefront of Dominic’s teaching style, this workshop is open to writers of all disciplines and skill levels, including people with learning disabilities and little or no formal education. Dominic is dyslexic and largely self-taught, and believes that this is no barrier to becoming a great writer.
Dominic Hoey is a poet, author and playwright based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. His novels Iceland and Poor People with Money were both New Zealand bestsellers, with Iceland longlisted for the 2018 Ockham Book Awards.
He received the 2024 New Zealand Exchange fellowship at Varuna, the National Writers’ House, and his appearances at the Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival that year were so well received, we invited him back for more!
