CREATING COMPELLING CHARACTERS WITH SOFIE LAGUNA

  • Seminar Room @ The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Using her award-winning books as a springboard, Sofie Laguna leads this in-depth workshop examining how strong characters can form the foundation of compelling storytelling.

Through lively brainstorming activities, you’ll create characters of your own and develop the stories that lie within them. Sofie’s philosophy is that characters can provide solutions to almost every problem, including plot, structure, and tone. Through a series of writing exercises, you’ll generate new ideas for your own project, and deepen your understanding of character.

This workshop welcomes writers of any genre and career stage eager to expand their characterisations and explore new techniques.

Sofie Laguna has written four novels for adults which have won numerous literary awards including the Miles Franklin Award, the Colin Roderick Award and the Indie Award. Titles include The Eye of the Sheep, The Choke and Infinite Splendours. She has also been shortlisted for the Stella Prize, the ALS Gold Medal, the Voss Literary Prize, the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award and the Prime Minister’s Literary Award, and longlisted twice for the Dublin IMPAC International Literary Award.
