POETRY STUFF, WITH MAXINE BENEBA CLARKE

  • Katoomba Library @ The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Ages 7+

The unbearable itch of chicken pox. The annoyance of sharing a Spotify account with your parents. The delight of smearing tomato sauce over everything you eat. The rebellion of the fake tattoo you know your nan will hate.

Maxine Beneba Clarke is back with 99 new poems for young people in the form of sonnets, pantoums, narrative verse, free verse, blackout poems, tongue twisters, limericks, found poems, concrete poems, haiku and more – all in the name of making magic out of the ordinary.

Come and get your poetry on with Maxine in this fun, hands-on, creative workshop that’s just for kids where she’ll show you how to unleash some poetry from your everyday world.

You’ll also get the chance to share your work with your parents at the end of the session.

Maxine Beneba Clarke is the award-winning author of over fourteen books for adults and children. It’s the Sound of the Thing: 100 new poems for young people, won the 2024 ABIA for Book of the Year for Younger Readers.
