One of the country’s most admired authors, join Melissa Lucashenko as she reflects on her immense career and discusses her recent essay collection, Not Quite White in the Head, with author, filmmaker and lawyer Larissa Behrendt.
Since her first novel was published in 1997, Lucanshenko’s work has been acknowledged by the Miles Franklin Literary Awards, Walkley Awards, Queensland Premier’s Awards, Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards, the Indie Book Awards and more. Spanning two turbulent decades, her latest collection explores the most pressing issues of our times with trademark wit and wisdom, including politics, activism, culture and social (in)justice, the marginalised lives of prisoners and the urban poor, Blak identity and Australian literature.
Melissa Lucashenko, a Bundjalung woman, is a multi-award winning novelist and essayist. In 2019 Too Much Lip won Australia's most prestigious writing prize, the Miles Franklin. Her most recent novel, Edenglassie, won a total of eight literary awards, including the ARA Prize for Historical Fiction. Her latest book is a collection of essays, Not Quite White in the Head.
Larissa Behrendt AO is a Eualeyai/Gamillaroi woman, award-winning author, filmmaker, lawyer and Distinguished Professor and Director of Research at the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research at the University of Technology Sydney. Larissa has written fiction and non-fiction books, including Finding Eliza, After Story, and her new book, Finding Justice.
